The area: Lakonia/ East Mani on southern Peloponnese peninsula, is green winter and summer. You find here wild flowers and animals and the impressive mountain ranges of Taïgetos and Parnonas with snow on the tops in winter. The climate has an almost 0% humidity in summer. There are very serene beaches where you can often be alone, hiking trails, old goat's walking paths and the area is good for biking, swimming, surfing, sea fishing. Culture can be found in Sparti and in the Mani region more to the south with villages like Vathia consisting of single towers and the history of the Manioti and pirates. There are Byzantine Churches and Turkish and Venetian fortresses like Kalefa and Monemvasia. From the port of Gytheio ferries go regularly to the Island of Crete and of Kythira
